Yay, I now have Surf!
Mine thus far are Samurott, Victini, and Archeops. Currently working with Zebrastrika to deal with all the Electric and Flying types in the area, and Stoutland for HMs and because I haven't found anything better to replace her with yet. 
Slot six has been going to whoever I decide to level up at the time--currently Timburr. Haven't found a good Pokemon for sleep-inducing moves yet; I got a Watchog, but it isn't really good for anything else.

Aww crud, you got past me. I'm gonna have to pick it up a notch.
I'm not proud of my team. My Emboar, Basculin, and Krokorok are my only powerhouses.
I use Munna for putting pokemon to sleep but it's really a waste of time since it rarely hits for whatever reason.

You can get the Basculin by trading. Don't remember what you traded to get though...

Munna come with Yawn which is I believe never misses (just takes a few rounds). Also gets hypnosis (which can miss) later.
Going to get my psychic/fire soon to take the Munna's place though. Hmm wonder where false swipe is. .

I am really upset right now. My DS won't connect to the Nintendo WiFi. Keeps coming up with some error.
On the plus side, I have surf now and I'm wandering around Twist mountain.

What kind of error? Your wireless might not have the right kind of security for your DS to connect, the vanilla system is kind of fussy like that.

Ok, here's a little update of my team. I've beaten the 6th gym and I now have:
36 Emboar
35 Palpitoad
34 Sigilyph
36 Krokorok
37 Galvantula
30 Axew
So, I'm in Spiral Mountain now (reference anyone?) Trying to get my Palpitoad to evolve into a Seismitoad and then I'm gonna try to get Axew up to the same level as the rest of my team.

Just shelved my Pansear (after evolving it) and Munna (after evolving it) because I picked up the psychic/fire type. Most of my pokemon are in the 21-22 range besides two new ones (I hate not being able to remember names)
Cottenee (I think grass type) - Level 17, but has 1.5x exp growth.
Victini (spelling?) - Level 16.
Roggenrolla - Level 22
Evolved form of Pidove - level 21
Evolved form of the water starter - 21
Evolved form of the dark feline - 21
Thinking of going electric instead of grass...but I like the 1.5 exp growth..makes it very easy to grind.

Ah...Tranquill, Dewott and Liepard, I think. Spelling's probably off.
I'm running around Victory Road as we speak. Also triggered the event for Tornadus.  Almost went after Colbion (sp?), but decided I have enough of my team worked out for now not to need him.

Found waterfall and hanging around all places where surf was needed when I lack it.
Btw which gym design is your fav?

I have a tough choice between exterior of Burgh's gym(reminds me of glass alien hive) and the interior of Clay's ( the epic last elevator)
On a side note - while I have to agree with MM on most of the moves animations theres actually one that has never been looking better...
Surf animation ftw!
Abou False Swipe - I got it. Its not hard to get it but I would never imagine it will be there. And found Cobalion accidentaly

Whoops, found out the hard way the timer keeps ticking during 'standby' when the C-Gear's on. I thought sixty hours of play time was a bit high...

Last Gym's. It's confusing, but the idea is cool. Agree with you about Clay's elevator though.

Woo, got the game yesterday and i made it to castelia(?) with a level 24 servine and a level 25 palpitoad... Gah, where are the cool pokemon at?
and the opening cutscene was way to serious, at first i wasn't sure if i even bought pokemon. where are the vibrant colors and playful scenes?

Put it this way: I've gotten to the Champion now and I still only have 5 Pokemon I'm actually happy to have in my team...and one of those is the Event Legendary.

WTF Mate? Where are the ice types? I hate facing dragons without a good ice type. I've been putting off facing Drayden for two days now trying to find an ice type. My pokedex says I can find that snot nosed bear thing in Twist Mountain but all I'm running into are fighting types and rock types.

In the lowest level of twist mountain + cold storage. Only three though
And yeah I was writing before visiting the last 3 gyms and I gotta say that Legend gym was great. Too bad that the leaders werent even a challenge -.- I just hope that Alder will be tougher.
And sadly to say Cheren is the worst rival in the whole series

Cubchoo, and I’ve seen ONE Cryagonal (sp?) in Twist Mountain. Vanilite (or whatever the least-evolved ice cream cone Pokemon is) is also in the long grass outside Cold Storage.

I can’t speak about the fight yet, but I can assure you that the lead up is suitably epic. 
And by worst, do you mean weakest, most powerful, or most annoying? >.>

The AI on the strategic front needs work though. There was a point where *spoiler*N's*spoiler*Carracosta*spoiler* had me on the ropes and could have finished off my Pokemon, and while he might have had an in-character reason for not doing so, there was absolutely NO reason for *spoiler*Ghetsis*spoiler* to try to Fire Blast my *spoiler*Reshiram*spoiler*, TWICE. He had better, more effective moves! Why the Fire Blast?
