Playing roughly six hours a day, four days in a row.

Anyway, I was itching to try the other starters so i saved my game for safe-keeping (also i'm kind of irked by the fact that you are WHISKED away to those three islands after you beat the fire leader, and now i'm going to have to battle with a Vileplume that is stuck with cut X__X)

but ok, this is my current team NOW:

So weak <3

and this is what i'm aiming for (thoughts? :3)

I'm not sure which pokémon would be the best 5th party member, but atm I 'm considering: Marowak, Ditto (because: lol), Snorlax, Gastly/Haunter, Clefairy or Dragonite.

I don't really have a good psychic pokémon I guess but i don't want to double Jynx/MrMime since i have them in another party and while I like Exeggcutor, I already have a grass pokémon in my party, therefore i see no point in getting it. Although I know that Venomoth can learn some psychic attacks, so I guess this somewhat mitigates the disadvantage I seem to have.

I might swap Lapras for Cloyster (vagina pokémon <3) or psyduck (<33333) or slowpoke (loltard <3) ugh too many water pokémon to choose from. -___-

Haven't played with most of those, but Haunter is nice. Fragile, but fast and strong (also, Levitate).

Team update:

Currently cruising on the S.S. Anne. Beating the Rival shouldn't be too difficult as all the water pokémon help boosting Pikachu's level. His Pidgeotto is the most dangerous of his pokémon anyway, and I think the combined efforts of Nidoran and Mankey should be enough to kill of his Charmeleon.

I've really grown fond of Nidorino, which I had no expected because I think the Nidorans are easily the most boring line design-wise. But, just the sheer idea of a Poison Pokémon (aka a TANK pokémon that's only vulnerable to Ground (lolrare) and psychic (lolrare)) who gets flying and fighting attacks early AND auto-poisons upon touch has proven itself really usefull. Nidorino KILLS Grass, Fighting, Bug types (and Rattata's) on sight and can hold his own against Magnemites and Onixes.

Since my team is rather weak and I'm not planning on keeping any pokémon on my team besides Bulba, Nidorino has proven himself to be quite the MVP and now i consider evolving it to Nidoking and keeping it.

I would make work of getting a Growlithe asap, so i can have a pokémon that can use Bite, and therefore can mitigate my team's current weakness vs Psychic Pokémon.

*checks Nidoking* I'm not sure when you get the TM for it, but Shadow Ball may be an option too. Or Surf.

Edit:

Unconfirmed at the moment, but hey War! It looks like you got your wish as far as character customization goes. I hope they have a female char option with reasonable clothes.

Yep, same article. Though the Bulbapedia article has some slightly better views and cutouts.
So let's start speculating and expressing likes and dislikes.

I like the idea that we can customize our chars, but skintone and haircolour ain't much. As Kareeah, I hope we can customise the clothing a bit as well. On the otherhand I'm rather glad we can have a blonde protagonist this time round. (Brendan doesn't count, he has White hair and redish eyes, so I count him as albino)

I like the idea that you can ride Gogoat around the capitol city, but on the other hand, if it's just this mon, I'd be dissapointed. It seems like a lot of hassle and a filled slot just to ride this goat around.
Speaking of Gogoat, he looks kinda cool. But I'm dissapointed that it's just Grass. As I've expressed here before, I like dual types.

The panda mon, Yanchamu, is a bit of a surprise for me. It's cute in a ruff 'n tumble kinda way. And something quite different for a cute mon, not repulsive. I'd like to see if and what it evolves in.

The robin mon, Yayakoma, seems to be the bog-standard early encounter bird mon. On the other hand, it apparantly knows Flame Charge, so it may just evolve into a fire type. (if it evolves that is) Which makes it oh so much more interesting.

The generator mon, Erikiteru, is kinda odd. It looks ever so slightly lizard-like. And it has a very odd type, being Electric/Normal. I'm not sure what to expect from it.

^This. I'm hoping we AT LEAST get Rapidash and some of the other quadrupedal-and-presumably-ridable Pokemon. (Tauros? Arcanine? Suicune, Raikou and Entei as in Guardian Signs? Maybe Rhyhorn?) I agree the goat-thing is cool looking, but not cool looking enough to get into my party of six permanently unless it has merits in addition to being a mount.

This. It's cute, but...not a fan yet. I like Flying types, but there's only so much they can do with the Normal/Flying super-common bird Pokemon. If they DON'T do something new and exciting with it, I'll probably pass on it.

This one is probably my least favorite of the new four; IMO it looks like a mutated Mawhile.

This is unrelated to what everyone else has been talking about but something has been bothering me lately.  I'm not sure why now but whatever.

You know how the constant memes and jokes always go that in the pokemon world at the age of 10 you're an adult and all 10 year olds usually get a pokemon and go on a journey.  I'm starting to think that this rule only applies to the comics and anime.  I never really thought about it but in all of the games the main character only gets a pokemon from the local professor to either run an errand for him or something similar and only get to keep it because the professor notices that the pokemon seems to like you.  I don't believe age is ever really established nor would you have gotten a pokemon had the related event not taken place.

The only exception to this seems to be in Black/White 2 where Bianca is sent to Aspertia for the sole purpose of giving you your first pokemon.

I guess what I'm getting at is I kind of wish they would make the canon story a bit deeper even if they have to borrow from other sources in the pokemon universe.

Mostly this came about when I got into a battle with a preschooler trainer NPC and although this isn't new, for once I thought it was kind of odd.

I think it's odd every time I battle a preschooler and they have level 50+ Pokemon, so you're not alone.

My theory for the battling preschoolers is that you can't become a TRAINER (and get a Pokedex, participate in the Pokemon League etc) until you're ten, but you can own Pokemon as pets or similar, and therefore battle them. And while ten is the earliest age for trainer-dom, you aren't required to start a journey at that age and children who don't want to be trainers don't go on a journey—the world's human doctors, lawyers, and so on have to come from somewhere after all. The Prof who gives you your Pokemon is just giving you a little nudge—"Hey Player Character, you'd make a good trainer. Why don't you try that before you sign up for Astronomy?"

The level 50s in their hands I write off as gameplay and story segregation—they're level 50 because you're past the Elite Four and that's the only reason.

Now for speculation. From Serebii:

Quote:
The Karos Pokédex will be separated into three areas: Central Karos Pokédex, Coastal Karos Pokédex and Mountain Karos Pokédex

I'm intrigued; presumably this isn't an arbitrary decision. What do you think this means for gameplay?

I'm hoping we'll get something like Gold and Silver did with Kanto and Johto, but I'm not going to hold my breath. It might just be like the Habitat Listing in B2/W2—useful but not something to get terribly excited about.

That would be so amazing if they expanded the game like that but I'm not going to get my hopes up.  The folks over at Game Freak seem to have a "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" philosophy.

Is it sad that my first thought on seeing this was please please please let there be pants (for the female trainer)!?

Good catch from someone on the Dragon Cave forums.

What is it exactly that we see there, cause I can't make it out.

So the leaked mons got english names now, as usual they're very punny. But they aren't as bad as some of the others I got used to over time. But then again, we've got a fair ammount of new mons to go, so it could get worse.
I'm glad we also get to customise outfits. At least I'm glad in theory. If we get more stupid/ugly stuff, I'll be dissapointed.
The new trailer is nice, though if that is the speed you ride your Gogoat around, I don't see the point.

As far as the trainer age goes, don't think too hard about it guys.
I think Kareeah is pretty much right about things. You have to be at least 10 to become a registerd trainer and participate in official tournaments and because of that most don't start before the age of 10.
But then again, that doesn't stop people from unofficially training and fighting mons. And as Forf said, level is as much an indication of game stage as it is supposed to be of skill, lorewise.
As far as player characters goes, I'm fairly sure that those of the first 2 gens are confirmed to be 10, those of the 3rd and 4th are ambiguous, and those of the 5th gen are confirmed to supposed to be older somewhere early to mid teens even.

It was suggested by the poster that they might be a pre-evolution of Gogoat. I considered the possibility that they're a different gender but a pre-evo seems more likely--note the similar color scheme but lack of horns and shorter legs.

I suppose that could well be the case. But if that is what we are looking at, perhaps I can make out smaller horns above what would be the white head.

Some time ago I played a bit gen 2 and got to try some different tactics.

I found out that substitute can shut down quite a lot of stuff in gen 2, which ruined a lot of sets I had made. In any case, it got me wondering, what are some of the more interesting, fun, or well working sets you've made?

Some of the stuff I tried last time were: Conversion + Nightmare + Curse + Recover, Sleep Powder + Roar, Fissure + Mind Reader. Substitute shut all of these down in Gen 2. I also finally got to try the Rest + Double Team + Sleep Talk + Ancient Power Lugia and found out in Gen 2 its main weakness was the maximum of 8 AP PP's more than anything else, and that DT is a wasted Sleep Talk pick after it's gone off 6 times already.

I'm going to assume you're using these three sets together, because Nightmare with no Sleep moves makes no sense.

I got a lot of mileage out of a Sub-Seeding Breloom in Emerald's Battle Frontier; it's mostly responsible for one or two of my Silver Symbols (still haven't gotten in gear to try earning the Gold ). Pity Poison Heal didn't exist in Emerald; I would have liked to have done that.

Edit:

So Serebii and some of the other sites say there is going to be a new type, and Sylveon's in it. IMO this is generally positive news; we have a new type and Sylveon isn't defiling the poor Normal type. They're also re-typing some of the old Pokémon. What are everyone's thoughts on this?

Yeah, I was hoping the rumours weren't true, but it turns out that we'll be getting Fairy-type. On the other hand, I still preferr Fairy over Echo-type. It being effective against Dragon is a bit odd of you ask me, but there are bound to be more strenghts and weaknesses like that. And the roster might do well with a little shake-up.

So what are our thoughts about this or the two newly revealed pokemon?
