Era works for me and many others under Windows 7, so my question is, how did you get it to not work?
More seriously, read the rest of this thread for examples of installation problems, make sure you are installing Era according to the instructions, and then if are not using the HD mod, or some other known source of incompatibility, give Bersy the information he needs to investigate your problem (the same as others have done previously at this thread).

No need anymore, I bothered enough Bersy about this issues and he added extension to MMarchive. It has *pac option as well in last release.

Do you have 2.4 version installed?
Val, it's not me who added *.pac extension to MMArchive. Chinese guy edited string using binary editor. String is a simple template.

1. Unsure that DEP (Data Execution Prevention) is off.
HowTo
2. Unsure that h3era.exe has no compatibility settings in properties.
3. Unsure that Era is installed with admin rights if you install the game in Program Files.
4. If it still fails, change heroes3.ini (Debug=1), run the game and upload eralog.txt.

For what reason they made win7 so complicate to handle? I mean, you should be able to install and play every game without several manual modifications before. This will be a no go for people not comfortable with computers.

Usually users do some wrong steps. For instance, on Russian forum one guy uses Dracolich pack, which in its case uses dynamical 3.58 UN:C address and crash every battle. I'm asking for installation steps, logs - everything ok. He just didn't mention additional scripts he placed manually. Same with executable properties or DEP. One day I will definitely make a FAQ of 4 points.

I have a hypothesis, which has no foundation except for personal experience at General Electric.
Vista was a nightmare, something that no self-respecting technical organization would have released, and Windows 7 not much better, until W7 Service Pack 1 came out.
Then I read an article about "Microsoft's Lost Decade", and things became clearer. It turns out MS management borrowed some techniques from my old nemesis, Jack Welch (former CEO of General Electric, where I worked for 35 years), including "stack ranking" (briefly, the practice of evaluating all members of each office yearly into three ranks, A, B, and C, at fixed percentages of 20%, 70%, and %10, such that the A's get bonuses, the B's don't, and the C's get fired - that's over-simplified a bit and it doesn't work that way in practice but that is the intent). This practice, along with other of JW's management "innovations" destroys morale and team spirit, and turns good technical organizations into poor ones, who spend more effort in office politics than in technical work.
If in doubt, blame Jack Welch. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Of course I also have a Theory of Technological Equilibrium, whereby technology becomes more and more complex faster and faster until it reaches an equilibrium in which new stuff like Windows 7 becomes obsolete before all its bugs are fixed and progress ceases - but I don't think we are quite there yet.
(Sorry for the off-topic rant, which I will delete if asked to.)

Becuase i tweak infrno troops for normal Heroes III game. My inferno mod changes stats of troops and their cost, so Inferno is one of best towns and cheap like stronghold. I don't change cost of dwellings, only cost of troops.

Hi, I've just discovered ERA today and it's amazing.
I'm trying to convert to MODS some modifications I did on wog scripts or heroes data files but there's one mod I can't make to work.
I've made a Mod that replaces SPTRAITS.TXT but it always crashes. System is Windows XP SP3 32bit

I do, but even extracting the file and not modifying it makes the game crash.

It is a matter of logic. If you extract sptraits from Heroes III/Data/H3bitmap.lod, the file should be in same folder and will work only with Heroes3.exe. If you extract the text file from hmm35wog.pac (which is what you should do), the file should be in MODS/WoG/Data or a custom mod. And will work with Era.

I don't know why they differ, I even tried with a sptraits from another wog version I modified and crashed also.
But well, for now if I extract it from hmm35wog.pac it works so I'll try from here.
Thanks for helping
