This way Moderators can award +QPs (if necessary) or, at the least, people can see your Masterpieces in your own Posts, instead of seeing them in mine.

When the King of Minks sent the letter to the Truntles, they came.
But instead of helping the Minks, they started to dismantle the Minks' huts. Shortly, a few of the huts were no more and the Truntles started building an arena in the middle of the village!

Then Grink and Bork were given a large trout each. 'Enter the arena' one of the Truntles spake unto Grink and Bork.
When they entered, they were told to fight fairly. And so, the fight began.
Grink was rather confused with the whole situation, but then Bork slapped him in the eyes with the trout, and realization dawned.
When Bork was releasing the next blow, Grink caught the trout with his beak and pulled it out of Bork's tongue, and then swallowed it. Then he grinned at the Fruit Monste ... post shortened to 2000 characters.

I feel silly here, but I have never played a single game of GTA on any system? Not the original, #2, #3, or Vice City! I have always owned a CPU and have had a PS2 for 2 years now, and yet, I have never felt the urge to pick up any version of GTA...seriously!

I have to tell you though, that from reading Posts like yours' and reviews on IGN, I don't think I can put it off any longer! I am finally going to play Grand Theft Auto!

But where do I start? In your opinions, should I start at the beginning or should I jump straight to San Andreas? I have no idea what's best or even how the game is played. I'm the same way with book Trilogies that have a Prequel written afterwards. "Do you start with the Prequel or finish with it?"

I have played lots of on-line multiplayer Halo 2 (but my friend took back his Xbox), so I look forward to making some comparisons...if I can. Please get back to me with your advice...Thanks!

(P.S. I haven't even played any versions of Final Fantasy on PS1 or PS2 either...Ouch)

u havent played a gta game b4?? unbelievable its like one of the best series eva!! I have every single game except some special one called GTA: London 1969, and i dont think they sold it here neway.

In my opinion, buy san andreas. The GTA series is made so dat it doesnt matter which game u play, they dont continue, they just keep gettin better and better! I enjoy all the games.. but the newest r definitly the better ones.. vice city is awesome too, i would get dat, but i garentee buying them is money well spent!

The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists has told the world what time it is since 1947, when its famous clock appeared on the cover. Since then, the clock has moved forward and back, reflecting the state of international security.

1947 | Seven minutes to midnight
The clock first appears on the Bulletin cover as a symbol of nuclear danger.

1949 | Three minutes to midnight
The Soviet Union explodes its first atomic bomb.

1953 | Two minutes to midnight
The United States and the Soviet Union test thermonuclear devices within nine months of one another.

1960 | Seven minutes to midnight
The clock moves in response to the growing public understanding that nuclear weapons made war between the major powers irrational. International
scientific cooperation and efforts to aid poor nations are cited.

1963 | Twelve minutes to midnight
The U.S. and Soviet signing of the Partial Test Ban Treaty “provides the first tangible confirmation of what has been the Bulletin’s conviction in recent years—that a new cohesive force has entered the interplay of forces shaping the fate of mankind.”

1968 | Seven minutes to midnight
China acquires nuclear weapons; wars rage in the Middle East, the Indian subcontinent, and Vietnam; world military spending increases while development funds shrink.

1969 | Ten minutes to midnight
The U.S. Senate ratifies the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

1972 | Twelve minutes to midnight
The United States and the Soviet Union sign the first Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty (SALT I) and the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty; progress toward SALT II is anticipated.

1974 | Nine minutes to midnight
SALT talks reach an impasse; India develops a nuclear weapon. “We find policy-makers on both sides increasingly ensnared, frustrated, and neutralized by domestic forces having a vested interest in the amassing of strategic forces.”

1980 | Seven minutes to midnight
The deadlock in U.S.-Soviet arms talks continues; nationalistic wars and terro ... post shortened to 2000 characters.

PH's thread was v. good, but 2xtreme should get some credit for this as well imo. He had a good opening post that invited people and made them WANT to post.

Speaking of - her's my post:

Ireland has a population of 4 million ( 6million if you include Northern Ireland - which I do ) with Dublin, its capital city.

We have a relatively mild climate with average monthly temperatures ranging from 7 degrees celsius in January to 19 degrees in July. (That means it pisses down rain most of the time, and freezes your nuts off the rest of the time)

The country's total area is 84,412km squared with a total coastline distance of 3,172km.

The bio-diversity of wildlife is naturally low due to Ireland's isolation from mainland Europe so many species present on the continent are absent. Many other common animals and plants have, in fact, been introduced by human settlers.

The free profession of religion is guaranteed to all citizens by the Irish Constitution. The stated religion of the majority of people in Ireland is the Roman Catholic faith.

The Irish language evolved from Celtic immigrants around 600 BC. The language survived the introduction of the linguistic diversity of both the invading Vikings and Normans down through the centuries.
The first to bring the English language to Ireland were the Normans.
Though English was slow to become established in Ireland it eventually became the language used for all administrative and legal business. Irish became associated with the poorer classes, and gradually English was adopted in general as the vernacular from the latter years of the eighteenth century on. (CURSE YOU PH!!! )

Northern Ireland (where I live)

Hey PH, thanx for the invite.
I live in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in the county of Antrim in the province (Americans read 'State') of Ulster.
Here's the map:

Heres our city hall:

Here's the oldest bar in Belfast - The Crown:

And here's where I went to university - Queens University:

Okay, so here are some key events in Northern Ireland's history

Ireland has been divided administratively since 1922 when the Irish Free State was formed
12th century.
First involvement by England in Irish affairs when the Earl of Pembroke, known as Strongbow, intervenes in a local dispute in Leinster in 1170 . King Henry II lands the following year.

English expansion continues and in 1177, Ulster is conquered by soldiers led by John de Courcy.

14th/15th centuries English expansion halted and then reversed. By the end of the period, English possessions are limited to a small area around Dublin. the 'Pale'. Everything outside is regarded as savage, giving rise to the expression 'beyond the pale'.

16th century First Henry VIII and then Elizabeth I take an increasing interest in Ireland. Colonisation increases again, sparking off several rebellions late in the century.

The greatest of the revolts, led by Ulsterman Hugh O'Neill, the Earl of Tyrone, reaches its high point with victory over the English at the Yellow Ford in 1598, but he is defeated three years later at Kinsale and surrenders.

17th century Start of the 'Plantation of Ulster' - the systematic colonisation of Donegal, Tyrone, Derry, Armagh, Cavan and Fermanagh by settlers from England and Scotland.

Hello, I'm new but I thought that some of you (those interested in the nature of historiography) might find this interesting. It's a short thesis I wrote as an undergrad.

Are Historians able to arrive at an objective account of the past or is their explanation inevitably bound to a schema of history? Argue with particular and specific reference to historians of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

Since the emergence of history as a professional discipline in the Nineteenth century, with the formulation of Barthold Georg Niebuhr and Leopold von Ranke's contribution of philological-critical method, History had been regarded as a science rather then a historic literary tradition. The emergence of scepticism and the questioning of the possibility of an objective history has posed a serious philosophical challenge to the study of the past. The arguments that have arisen since the emergence of scepticism question the ability of the Historian to arrive at an objective account of the past and challenge the notion of a discipline of history, relegating history to being a mere branch of literature as genuinely objective knowledge is not possible in history. By examining the theories and practices, particularly the argument between objectivists, scepticists, positivists and relativists, of a variety historians and philosopher practicing in the Nineteenth, Twentieth and Twenty-first centuries it can be established that while historic explanation is bound to a 'schema of history' it is possible for an historian to arrive at an objective account of the past depending on what definitions a historian or philosopher ascribes to 'historical understanding' and 'objectivity'.
Before continuing with this argument concise definitions of both 'history' and 'objectivity' must be established. If one defines 'the past' as 'everything in its near infinitude that happened in the past, entirely regardless of any actives by historians' as Marwick does, then 'history ... post shortened to 2000 characters.

LOL Nice try Woock.  I doubt you were even born in 1969, and I know for certain HC wasn't.  We were still playing D&D on a cardboard sheet and the smallest computer in the world still filled a whole room.

There are a few theories. The true one is that I kinda broke HC when I was still using my previous account (back in 1969) and now people keep receiving blank IMs from the past.

<NOTE:  This post was removed from "Why the Hatred" because my original intent was to start a new thread.  I did not realize until just now that the post turned up there instead of being a whole nre thread.  Apologies.>

For about the fourth time in the last couple of days, I have received a series of blank IMs indicating they were sent on December 31, 1969 at 7:00 p.m.

Is this a ghost in the machine? Is it the machine's birthday? Is it somebody else's birthday and the gods are trying to tell me something?

What happened on December 31, 1969 in history? Anybody got a clue???

Just what the heck is going on here? Is anybody else getting a series of blank IM's that purport to have been sent on December 31, 1969 at 7 p.m.???

Any wild, rampant creative speculation on this occurrence is greatly encouraged. The wilder the better....
