Define "finished"?

v1.0, something that's not a beta and fully playable.

IMO, this is not a wise policy. People really don't care if it's already done or not. They just want everything in one platform as optional features. Otherwise, it is like an expansion that not only brings new features, but takes away old ones.

In screenshots I see Wog artifacts including commander ones. So does that mean original features of Wog will be there but not third party scripts? What about standard Wog buildings like Market of Time, Summoning Stones, etc etc?

The purpose was to support ALL commander artifacts in general, both old and future ones, and not any single one in particular.

Ability to add any number of new towns is more important than one building like Market of Time, don't you think?

Btw, i think "Grants wielder 10% bonus to Intelligence skill." is a deceptive definition. It gives the impression that you need to have Intelligence Skill in the first place for it to work (like the Bow and Bowstring demands Archery skill). The definition should be something like:

"Increases mana by 10 percent."

Much more accurate.

While I love all these new features like new items and such I still look forward to the clean animations most. Everything just moves so slowly, laggy and clunky for me. There is also no casting animation IIRC which makes it feel awkward, spells' animations also. Or maybe there are something wrong with my computer and I miss something to make things work properly.

- New artifacts dont have a title (name) when you right-click them.
- Installing on H3 Complete caused instant crash, I could only run it by installing to Era folder.

First of all, thanks for this awesome project.
The "remake" makes the Game so much better...

What confused me a little was your statement:

Does this mean, that you are remaking the games basics, without changing any of the existing content, and without adding new stuff  into the game?

As I understand, the main purpouse of the project is to recreate the engine of the game and offer good tools and support to add new stuff to the game (like new towns, creatures, spells, etc...).

They may add new content as optional mods (like HotA stuff), but they won't adapt all of them...

This sounds promising, indeed...

So, is this going to be the next generation of Era, or will they both be compatible with each other?

I was also asking myself, if it will generally work with external mods (other than WOG)?

And finally, i read that it is compatible with WOG, but in the current state of developement, the WOG-Options cannot be openened.
Does that mean, that WOG isnt implemented yet, or that the standard WOG-Mod is already implemented, and just cannot be configured?

(Sorry if those questions have been asked before)

ERA goes completely different way and doesn't seem to be compatible. Anyway, ERA is a platform too, not a mod.

Quote:

That's the point. There are no "internal" mods in VCMI

Quote:

It requires WoG data, it is not compatible with WoG mod.

There is no such thing as "satndard WoG" and will never be. WoG is a bunch of random scripts, most of them is nonsense.

Supported WOG features are new creatures, some common objects, commanders and stack experience. We're also hoping to support ERM someday.

Another development version with few obvious bugs fixed.

VCMI 0.90c

In this release the very basic RMG is enabled, mostly for testing purposes.

Yes, we need testers!

Here are my (basic) impressions after playing VCMI for some time:

General
* VCMI feels like the most modern Version of HOMAM 3. Its sad that the game lacks a well developed basis, for example for multiplayer, so im glad theres a project that doesnt add a ton of chooseable scripts to the game, but remakes its cores. Keep up the great work!

Suggestions
* Since the game doesnt support WOG-Options, they should be removed from the Game-Setup-Screen.
* There should be the Option to setup Alliances
* What i would like as a new feature during battles, would be a preview, where the outcome of a possible battle between the current, active- and another unit is shown (like in Civilization V).

Bugs
* Scrolling by mouse does not always work

Most of wog enhancements scripts should be part of VCMI core I think, they provide much better game-play:

Rename towns
Buy all
Enhanced dwellings text
Display hero movement
Custom alliances
Swap troops
Quick combat options
No week of
Rewritable signs
New battlefields
Select neutral towns type
Neutral stacks size
Artifacts/spells ban

I would also love to see a journal available, where the player can input notes and hints about current game. Like a "to do" list.

I don't think these are needed... players are supposed to play maps, not change them

Quote:

Not sure what "meutral stack size" is supposed to do, but disabling spawning creatures is necessary for sure.

Quote:
New battlefields

This is a big mod feature and needs to be designed carefully.

Quote:
Artifacts/spells ban

This should be a part of map editor or mod options.

Quote:

Quick combat options

This is quite difficult, as in VCMI there are no quick battles and even AI plays them normally. But I agree it's useful feature.

In Might & Magic I there was a notebook attached where players could draw maps and write down quests.
Now they want notepad  in HD 3D...

Rename towns is very useful on large and rich maps, where you have constantly to town portal to a precise town. For me is a true havoc when I play some sod maps and 5 towns from 40 give me troops thus I need to scroll the map to find names.

Select towns/custom alliances/neutral stack size/ban artifacts are mostly for random maps, where you don't have access to editor before game. It makes sense in a multiplayer game to be able to ban necro or other unwanted types, create alliances between AI to increase challenge or simply play with buddy against AI.

Quote:
Quick combat options

I mean only mana usage. In SoD late fights are frustrating, you attack 10 goblins with 1000 angels in quick and after the battle you realize you lost 50 mana.

Many complex maps require constant switching between game and desktop, to write hints/to do, take screens and prepare walk through. Would be nice to create (if possible) such feature from game inside.

Actually is very easy, looks at morn battlefields erm codes. I check the terrain where battle takes place then I run a random dice, depending on result the game choose a different pcx. An eye candy for hardcore players, monotony is a pain and battles represent about 90% of the time you spend on a map. Probably a 10 minutes work for VCMI to code, the graphics are ready and very professional.

Swaping backgrounds is easy indeed, but also not very interesting for that reason. Consider the following:

- New battlefield obstacles (should match background)
- New terrain types
- Each tile and object should always have same battlefield
- How to support custom battlefields in map editor?

And there were more issues already. I'd like to have a complete plan for all the battlefield issues before players are allowed to use them.

Yeah, but how many people do that? Players want to play stuff in first place
